A grand master key padlock system is a set of padlocks organised into access tiers, so that different keyholders each open a different group of locks with a single key. The grand master key (GMK) opens every padlock in the system; a sub-master key (MK) opens only one defined zone — a block, a floor, or a department; and an individual (change) key opens just one padlock. It is the padlock equivalent of the master-keyed door-cylinder systems supplied by cylinder specialists such as Gain (ABLOY), KBA Dynamic and Keyline — except Inpixel configures the hierarchy on portable Vpass padlocks for gates, risers, meter rooms, store rooms, lockers and equipment bays where fixed cylinders do not fit.
The three configurations solve different access problems. Keyed-alike (KA) means every padlock opens with the same single key — simplest, best for one team securing many points. Master key (MK) gives each padlock its own individual key while one master opens them all — right when each user needs private access but a supervisor needs override. Grand master key (GMK) adds a third tier above the master, so a whole site can be split into zones, each with its own sub-master, all sitting under one grand master.
